Simple Sugar Scrubs on Shark Tank

Simple Sugar Scrubs - Season 4 - Episode 419 - 3-29-2013
Simple Sugar on Shark Tank
Lani Larrari Inventor of Simple Sugar Scrubs
The Simple Sugars Scrub Business is a very inspiring and soon to be a very successful company started by an 11 year old girl named Lani Lazzari. Lani is now 18 years old and she is finally in full control of her very unique sugar scrubs enterprise. What started out as Christmas gifts for the Holidays has come full circle and will now be Featured on the Shark Tank Show. The Natural & Organic Simple Scrubs are a high quality luxury natural scrubs for folks that have sensitive skin.

The idea came to this young entrepreneur when Lani invented the all natural skin scrub to help with eczema and figured it would also make terrific gifts. She was determined not to use any colors or preservative's and keep the formula as simple and natural as possible. Everyone that received the simple sugars original batch loved it so much and encouraged Lazzari to continue making more. Fortunately for Lani she has two very supportive parents, Don and Gina, that saw the Simple Sugars Scrubs potential and invested $2,000.00 to get the business up and running.
They converted the basement into an office as well as a functioning lab and soon Lani was in business. By the time she was 15 years old Lazzari was already featured in Forbes Magazine which certainly helped spread the Simple Sugar Scrubs Brand and inspire her to the next level of success.

What sets the Simple Sugar Scrubs apart from most of the competitions can be summed up by Lani herself. "The Simple Sugars products are all-natural sugar scrubs especially formulated for sensitive skin. What makes them different is the fact that they are a high-quality, luxury product that smells great, while also being all-natural and safe for people with even the most sensitive skin". The actual line of products being offered is also very impressive with at least a few different varieties to choose from. Lani has also came out with a Men's version for soft skin simply named SMOOTH.

Simple Sugars before the Shark Tank

Simple Sugars Scrubs
Come In Several Varieties
Everything that Lani has done for almost half her life has prepared this young entrepreneur to walk in the Shark Tank and get a deal to propel the Simple Sugars Brand to the next level. From what I can tell she is taking this year off before going to college and building the Simple Sugars Brand to a point that will take less of her time while she completes her education. (Very Smart Young Lady)
As good as this sounds it may also pose a problem with a few of the Sharks that prefer their business partner's be 110% committed to the business. Going off to college right after your business explodes from being on the Shark Tank may not be a financial long term risk they are willing to take. On the other hand if Lani can prove she already has a team in place to handle the day to day operations and she can successfully keep growing the business as we'll as go back to school, she most likely will get a deal with at least one of the Sharks. This is a great success story with plenty of traction to make the Simple Sugars Scrubs a National Brand.

We look forward to doing an update on the Simple Sugars Scrubs in the very near future.

You must not have skin problems. I have spent 8x this amount on junk that doesn't work. The shipping fee is out of her hands/a fact of life. I can't wait to try the product!

Take it up with the post office! Shipping ANYthing is expensive these days. If I had sensitive skin I'd try this in a heartbeat. Saw the show and it seemed impressive, and not all that expensive if it truly works!

I've been waiting since March 30 to receive my product. Can't get a hold of anyone on the phone, voice mail is fool and can't leave a message. Not a happy customer right now!

Actually, shipping is not always out of someone's hands. There are Flat Rate options and the PO does, in fact, negotiate with larger shippers. I am sure she has the volume to talk to her local rep. However, e-Bay is where you will find the real shipping cheaters.

They processed my payment on April 9th and I have not received my products. I have called and left 4 messages to call me back to find out where my order is, no one will call me back. Is anyone else having problems like this?

    11. Shipping is expensive for anything anymore. The price of the product is cost effective if you've spent any amount of money trying to cure eczema. I receive my product today, though it was about a month wait. I will say, the packaging, the hand written note on my invoice, the extra pop lids for the shower and little stirring spoons, are an awesome touch. I used both the facial and body scrub and, though I usually have to cake on baby eczema cream after I wash my hands, there was no need with this stuff and my hands still feel fantastic two hours later. Those of you who have been waiting, be patient. No one thought the company would grow like this and the cost and quality is well worth this hiccup.

the sizes at bath and body works are larger in ounces hence the more money... in the end the products are fairly priced for both B&BW and Simple sugars.

Lani, saw you on Shark Tank and I think you have the drive and passion to go far with this. Market the heck out of it! I will be trying it! Mark you shouldn't have taken so much of a percent, this girl worked hard for this and I've never seen so much determination in a young lady.
    Best of luck!

I aree with many of the good comments here! Especially how Lani is a great young lady to work so hard on her dream and present it and herself in such an effective way. I'm also surprised how Mark being a great guy to see the potential here as an investor went a little too far in taking 33% of the company, however, it was his money being put up so his choice. Who knows perhaps with all his connections this young lady will be a millionaire very soon! Good Luck!!!

I loved Lani and her line of products. While I understand some of the comments regarding the competitive cosmetics market; I also like to support smaller startups that have a great product and story. I will be ordering Sugar Scrub definitely and love the heart that Mark Cuban seems to put into investing in these companies. I pray the partnetship works out great for both.

Regardless of need, this is a product that anyone should be able to get behind. There is an incredible need for skin care products that are not only effective but safe for long term use. There is a lot of competition out there, but you have to appreciate the passion and vision of such a young, talented woman. This is the kind of business we could use in America.

Simple and natural is always much to be desired over complicated and artificial--especially with products for use on or in people. Relief from pain and/or itching is worth smelling like some fruit--at least until a Mennen Skin Bracer after shave scent is introduced for men.

Just got the strawberry body scrub. It is amazing and has helped clear some of my bumoy eczema outbreaks...only problem is, it only lasted 3 showers. Are you going to make a larger container and possibly a pump? It is hard to keep the container open and apply while not getting shower water in it. I need to apply in shower, as my eczema is widespread over my body. Thanks!

I just ordered the coconut scrub to try. My 1 1/2 year old daughter has eczema. My husband and I are really hoping this will help bring her some relief. We have tried many different creams and ointments none seem to really help with the itching/irritation. Hoping this will!

all i can say they have no management skills at all, when you take money from a persons account you think they would end the product, nope carpet baggers, take your money and not even get any snake oil, called 4 times with no return here my order number103625951 reciept #4393832813125674, what a shame my dermatologist suggested i try it for cleansing he said if company doesn't send product or refund he would pay me back. my only option is to contact dunn and bradstreet to file a monetary complaint for mail fraud and the better business bureau, sorry it had to come to this but just cant stand a company that takes your money and leaves you hanging.

    1. Though it doesn't help those of us who have already been charged, they have altered their practice of charging your credit card up front. After the unexpected response the Shark Tank experience, Simple Sugars will now only charge your credit card once the item is shipped. This was included in a YouTube video Lani sent via email to those who had purchased and on the Facebook page. If you didn't get the email with the link, check your spam mail, that's where mine went.

  33. They were inundated with 15,000 orders in 3 days. Give her a break. It sounds like they are doing everything they can to get those orders out. And as far as shipping costs go, I can tell you as an etsy seller that I almost always eat at least part of shipping (not really good business for me) Maybe not with the new volume she can negotiate, but I doubt they would give her the time of day before. And as far as flat-rate goes, have you seen lately what will fit into a small flat rate box? Good luck. I can't even fit 1 bar of soap in a small flat rate box which goes for $5. I believe the medium is like $11. Try to convince someone to pay for that shipping. And btw the medium is far too big. Shipping is definitely out of proportion; it's just a product of our lovely USPS.

  35. I bought the strawberry sugar scrub for my daughter and pomegranate for myself. These sugar scrubs smell amazing! I was disappointed with the size, considering the price. I'm not sure I will be a repeat customer. With the price of the sugar scrubs and shipping, it was just too expensive. Can you bring the price point down? I really had to ration the usage of the scrub to make it last more than 4 showers.

I just saw the repeat of the shark tank show and immediately ordered some products.
I suffer from psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. I can't wait to try her products as I refuse to use any biologics due to the possible side effects. If it takes some time to receive them, then I will be patient for a reasonable time as I realize that if she has been inundated with orders, it will take time to produce and ship. I applaud her efforts and wish her nothing but success. It give me hope for the future that there are ambitious, intelligent young people out there willing to take a risk and try and help others in the process.

  39. People, do your homework! Any product, whether it is made with water or not, that has the potential of water being introduced, such as a wet hand being dipped into the jar, being taken into the shower, whatever, then has water in it and will grow little nasties. Not to mention the "real" strawberries, lemon peal etc that she lists in her ingredients. What happens if you keep fresh strawberries around too long. Right it molds and grows little nasties. The vitamin E and other "natural preservatives" that she lists are not a preservative, they won't keep those nasties from growning once you dip your wet hand in the jar. Cause wet is water and you've just added water to your scrubs which changes the whole environment of the sugar scrub. That is why professional formulators have one or more preservatives in any formula that contains or has the potential to have introduced to them water or biologicals added to them.
