Man Candle on Shark Tank

Smelly Man Candles Season 2 Episode 208 - Update

Shark Tank Season 2, Episode 208
Johnson Bailey with His
Original Man Candles
The very cheerful Johnson Bailey is the inventor of the Original Man Candle that made its debut on the Shark Tank Show, What the heck is a Man candle? We'll, they have unique scents unlike any other candles on the market. Most candles have perfume scents to make a room smell good, and the Man Candles are designed to have more of a manly smell along with a few other choice smells.
Duck Fart Candle's

The Original Man Candles come in scents ranging from popcorn, draft beer, pot roast, the golf course, a basketball court, football and the most famous, the fart candle. Yep, no doubt about it, all Man Caves should have smells resembling these manly aromas as evidenced by his $53k in sales last year. If you want to keep the Lady's out of your Man Cave, then I believe these candles just might do the trick.

Johnson Bailey came in the Shark Tank looking for a $50k investment for a 25% stake in the Man Candle Business. The Shark's had no interest in any of the candles with the exception of the fart candle that has the potential to be a great gag gift.
Even in the manliest man caves of caves, why would you want it to smell like a sweaty basketball court? At least the fart candle could serve to clear out a room if ever needed. Needless to say, none of the Sharks seemed interested investing $50,000.00 in the candle business for any amount of equity.

Original Man Candle After Shark Tank Update

Seen on the Shark Tank
The Original "Fart" Man Candle
Guaranteed To Keep Females
Out of Your Man Cave
Grant it that it's easy to see why none of the Sharks invested in this niche product but it still seemed like Bailey could make a go of this and turn it into a nice small business. The first thing that came to my mind is seeing the Man Candle at Spencer's Gifts that would seem like a perfect fit. Unfortunately, it looks like someone blew the candle out and the Original Man Candle website is now in the dark as of this writing.

There is a few lessons to learn to start with a theme when introducing multiple products to your line. With such a variety of products and no focus on a general theme is what may of ultimately ended the Man Candle Business. Had Bailey changed his marketing strategy and chose to promote his most popular "fart candle" and then build a Brand around what was selling, he might still be in business.

The Man Candle's is one of the very few businesses that seems to have completely collapsed after their appearance on the Shark Tank. Sometimes even being featured on the #1 Business Show is still not enough to make it a success even with all the publicity. Fortunately, this is a very rare occurrence for any entrepreneur to fold up shop after being on the Shark Tank and not take advantage of the ongoing publicity for appearing on the Show.

Hopefully, we will be doing another update for Johnson on his next business venture that will become a true success story. Sometimes your first attempt may not lead to the success you hoped for but what matters the MOST is you get back up and try again.

  1. Well that's really gross. I'm a man and I would never buy disgusting smelling candles. Personally I like the scents my wife buys. I was supposed to be looking for cheap candles online when I came across this post. So ridiculous! Not surprised he didn't win.

well you don't have a Dad like mine! I 've put up with fart jokes for 37 years and it's just going to get worse. So my dad's had a rough life and if I can make him Laugh with a fart candle for Christmas than so be it. My mom would probably buy it if she had found it first. Life is too short!

It could have worked!! Basketball, Golf Course, bacon, Gasoline . I'll great manly smells. Fart could be a good gag gift but would propaply hurt the brand name.

My kids found the bacon one in a gift store and bought it for their bacon obsessed dad for Father's Day a couple of years ago. He laughed. They were happy because he is hard to buy for and he actually got a kick out of it. I've seen other brands like this since, but we happened to have bought the one from this guy. Too bad it didn't work out for him. He made a few bucks from us, anyway :)

  8. I would buy the fart candle for our gag gift for Christmas!
