Breathometer on Shark Tank
Breathalyzer App - Season 5 - Episode 505 - Week 2
|Smartphone Breathalyzer App|
Seen on Shark Tank Season 5
Taking this smart phone app a step further, the Breathometer not only is a reliable breathalyzer, it's also a "smart" breathalyzer tracking your progress and let you know when it's safe to drive. With a retail price of only $49, this small little Breathometer can potentially save you thousands of dollars from getting a DUI, or a great deal more if you were also involved in an accident.
Earlier this year on March 13, 2013, Charles Michael Yim decided to raise the needed capital for developing the Breathometer Breathalyzer App using Indiegogo as the preferred Crowd Funding Platform. Yim set a reasonable goal at $25k which was easily achieved way a head f schedule By the time the crowdfunding campaign was over, the Breathometer raised $138,000.00 from over 3800 contributors.
Charles Michael Yim is no stranger developing new technology or taking a startup company from an idea, to being acquired by a large conglomerate which the Sharks are going to love. Yim was the founder and CEO of Chatterfly which was started back in 2010 and successfully raised $1 million seed money in February 2011. Later that year in December 2011, Chatterfly was acquired by Plum District (a Kleiner Perkins Co.) who was only interested in the technology to further grow their version of the Daily Deals Business.
Who gets the $1 million dollar offer on Shark Tank this Friday Night?
This is the last article for this week's Shark Tank Show and I'm about 99.9% sure Charles Michael Yim and the Breathometer will get a million dollar offer. Raising $1 million in funding is nothing new to Yim, and with the technology behind the Breathometer, it may even be considered a bargain depending on how much equity He's willing to give the Sharks to invest in his portable Breathalyzer Technology.
After 7+ million viewers watch the Shark Tank this Friday, I could only imagine the Breathometer is going to get a lot of interest and thousands of people will want to purchase one for their smartphone. If you want to be a big hit at a party and have all the Ladies blowing on your smartphone, (a great way to break the ice I must admit) this is The product to always have on hand. All joking aside, if it even prevents one person from driving drunk, it would already pay for itself many times over.
Now for the not so good news which is they are "not for sale" at this time. According to the website, you can pre-order a Breathometer for $49 with an expected arrival time sometime next month in October. Unfortunately when you run a successful crowdfunding campaign that raises 7 times more money than expected, you're bound to run into delays and the Breathometer is no exception. In fact, it looks like the original investors are still waiting to get their breathalyzers this many months later.
If you run a successful crowd funding project and know delays are coming from increased demand, it's always a very good idea keeping the people who believed in you first, updated on the progress. According to the comments on Breathometer's Indiegogo page, updates have been far and few in between. The Sharks are all well aware how important customer service is, especially when delays are inevitable, and yet there are no updates other than pushing delivery time's farther into the future.
Charles probably will get the million dollar offer, but because of the facts stated above, I'm not so sure he closed a deal on the Shark Tank Show. I will be shocked if the Sharks actually do close a deal and have let this small little detail get past them. After 20+ years in the Service Industry, I know first hand how important it is to take care of your current customers First, before compounding the problem and making promises you might not be able to keep. Under promise and over deliver is always good advice for anyone selling anything when it comes to happy customers.
The good news is the Breathometer Business has several job openings and hiring for a variety of new positions. There's no doubt there is a market for a small portable breathalyzer especially after it becomes a household name from being seen on the Shark Tank. If they thought they were behind getting orders fulfilled to this point, the list is about to grow substantially when the Shark Tank Effect comes knocking on the Breathometer's door.
P.S.- According to the Facebook page, Big News is coming sometime this week to co-inside with the airing of Shark Tank this Friday Night. Will the Breathalyzer finally be ready to start fulfilling orders before that time? We shall see!
