So how do two young couples start a business making Green Cleaning Products in what I would assume is a very crowded market, and succeeds beyond their wildest dreams within a few short years? It all started one day when Tim Barklage was having a conversation with his wife Nancy about the chemicals on the label of the cleaning products they were using. Like any man wanting to impress his new Bride, of course he knew what all these names on the label were and why most of them didn't need to be included but still be an effective cleaning product. And just like many Husbands before his time, Tim realized he might of stuck his foot in his mouth when his wife said in so many words "O.K., then make me something better".
The video below is Nancy's version how Better Life cleaning products started and kind of cracked me up while bringing back a few memories of my own.
All of the Better Life Cleaning Products must pass 3 very stick requirements before being added to the Clean Happens lineup.
- Better Life Products are safe for people and pets if swallowed. All products are made with plants, vegetables, and water with no fragrances, dyes or harmful chemicals of any kind.
- They are safe for the Environment containing no ethoxylate which is common in most cleaning products. Anything carrying the Better Life Brand must also biodegrade double the rate of the industry standard.
- The Green Cleaning Product MUST Work better than conventional products and outperform the Name Brands using harmful chemicals.
Better Life pre Shark Tank UpdateThe one thing that concerned me when I first heard Better Life was going to be on the Shark Tank was actually the "Green" part itself. Unfortunately a lot of Green Products which clearly would help our Planet if we all used a lot more of usually involves steeper prices which most folks are still not willing to pay. On the other hand having a 100% safe and environmentally friendly cleaning products that were cost comparable to some of the crap already being sold, could potentially be a very large Untapped Gold Mine the Sharks could help make into a Household Brand Name.
I figured I would start with one of the most successful Better Life products simply called "What Ever". The What-Ever claims to clean whatever it is you need to clean including grease, grime and even toilet bowls. I was pleasantly surprised to find out the bottle of the Better Life "What Ever" Product only costs $5.26 which is very comparable to name brand items. I thought I would dig a little deeper and see what else Better Life makes and, well, they have one of the largest lists of products already being sold from contestants on the Shark Tank. In fact there's 6 Full Pages of Better Life Cleaning Products on Amazon alone.
Something tells me the Sharks will be very interested investing in the Better Life Brand, but it may come at a steep price considering how well established the Clean Happens Brand already is. One of their biggest Retail Stores is Whole Foods Market whom they have had an established business relationship going back at least 4 years. Whole Foods Market is well known for only carrying quality products that meet their strict requirements and certainly adds to the Better Life Brands reputation.
