Skateboards that Ride Like a Surfboard - Episode 507 - 10/11/2013

What do you get when you combine a Skateboard with a Surfboard? Why you get the next coolest product seen on the Shark Tank Show called the "Hamboard". A Hamboard is an extra-long Longboard that resembles more of a Surfboard than a Skateboard and designed to surf on land. As with most cool new Board Sports that's ever been invented, the one thing they all have in common is they originated in Southern California with the Hamboard being the latest to join this impressive group coming from Huntington Beach, California.

The Hamboards are named after the Hamborg Family that not only created this new surfboard on land, they perfected riding this unusually long LongBoard. With a family of 5 Boys and two active Parents, the Hamborgs conceived, designed and produced the surfing style skateboard over 8 year's time out of their Shop in Huntington Beach, Ca.

I happen to know a little bit about the skateboard business having spent more than I care to remember on Skateboards, Snowboards and every other kind of Board or Skate for my own Boys. As a matter a fact, I'm starring at a Longboard that's still in our living room as I'm writing this. It belonged to my oldest Son he used to get around College Campus last year and gave it to my youngest Son before going to Japan for his Junior year. By definition, its considered a longboard I would say is around 3 feet long just by looking at it. Comparing what I already thought was a very Long Board from when I was a kid; these Ham Boards make even this Long board look extremely small.

I figured I would ask the only expert I know in the Skateboarding World who has spent countless hours mastering everything on wheels along with surfing down some of the biggest Ski Slopes in the County, my youngest Son. After watching one of the Hamboard Video's with me, his expert opinion was wrapped up in a single word, "Cool". One thing He pointed out he really liked about the Hamboard was its ability for the sides of the board to scrape the ground compared to a traditional Longboard which would open up a whole new set of tricks yet to be invented. Yep, that makes sense to me!

Hamboards on the Shark Tank

There's clearly a market for this new Surfboard on Wheels that certainly would get a lot of attention no matter where you go skating. I'm not sure about this, but I wonder if riding a Hamboard improves your ability to ride a Surfboard? If that's the case then every Surfer that takes this Sport seriously is going to buy a Hamboard to keep in shape during the off season. But is this "new market" big enough to interest the Shark's to invest in the Hamboards?

If there's one thing I always like to see when learning about upcoming Shark Tank Contestant's, it's when they take maximum advantage promoting they're going on the Best Business Reality Show in  History. It doesn't always mean they got a deal with the Sharks, but who Cares? Just having your Business Featured on the Shark Tank Show really is priceless publicity that will forever keep paying dividends.

Did the Hamboards get A Deal On Shark Tank? Here's a video of Pete Hamborg and his oldest Son Gus they made shortly after learning the Hamboards are going to be on Shark Tank Episode 507.

After watching this video the odds look rather good at least one Shark takes a bite out of the Surfing board/Skateboard Business. The main message is "Check your local listing for Shark Tank on ABC this Friday Night October 11, 2013". Great Advise!!!
