Photo Flip Books - Episode 515 - 1/10/2013
Create Flip Photo Books on Shark Tank Episode 515
Create Personalized Photo Books For Free!!!
Pay only $2.99 for Shipping for 100 Photo's
If you get a lot of pictures developed from your smart phone then, you're going to Love the Groove Book App coming to the Shark Tank this Friday Night. The Groove Book is a Free App available for both Apple and Android smart phones that let you create Photo Flip Books practically Free.

Simply choose between 40 and 100 of your favorite picture's and then let the Groove Book do its magic creating you a 4.5" x 6.5" Photo Book for Free, just pay $2.99 shipping fee. Each photo is printed on glossy paper and perforated within the book to easily remove if you ever choose.

O.K., I have to admit, it's been years since I've had pictures developed into photos, but I still remember it cost a whole lot more than 3 cents per print. Have you ever heard the saying "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is?" Who in their right mind would start a business giving away a quality product and only charge for the shipping? Furthermore, what kind of an entrepreneur would come into the Shark Tank with such a low margin they value on their product and expect to have any of the Sharks interested in investing into the success of the business? An Entrepreneur that chose to think outside the box and came up with a brand new way to change an entire industry would be the correct answer.

How can the Groove Book App possibly make enough of a profit to interest any of the Sharks when your total bill is only $2.99 for 100 high quality glossy photos including the shipping? For starters, the $2.99 is a recurring monthly charge that will be billed to your credit card whether you submit more picture's for a new flip book the next month or not.

If you already have lots of pictures you would like to organize into photo flip books, then this has to be one of the Best Deals on the Internet. However, if you forget to send them between 40 and 100 photo's for your next photo album, you will still be charged the $2.99 for that month. Considering you couldn't touch another quality photo book with perforated sides for $20 including shipping, you could take six full months putting together your album and still come out ahead.

It's all in the Up-Sales that will make the Groove Book App a Major Success. They have first figured out a new creative new way to print high-quality photos at a fraction of the cost of the competition. A lot of customers might only make one new photo flip book every month or so, but what about those special occasions involving dozens if not hundreds of people? A great example would be a large wedding where you could make a photo book for your entire guest's at a cost under $3.00 each. Another example might be a large business party or event involving hundreds of attendees that would appreciate this inexpensive gift and help build morale around the office.

Groove Book App before Shark Tank Update:

No doubt the GrooveBook App has a much different business model than any product ever seen on the Shark Tank. But geese, collecting only $2.99 from most customer's on a monthly basis sure doesn't seem like there would be enough profit to interest the Sharks. Unless of course they already have several thousands of established customers showing a good percentage of them do not make a new photo book each and every month. Because you can cancel your subscription at any time after you get your first photo book, I would also be very interested in the churn they are experiencing on the overall percentage every month.

The good news is I already know at least a few Sharks are interested in the Groove Book App, and they WILL get some offers during this episode. It's a great new product for consumers& that I will be subscribing to myself, and apparently this business model has already proven to be successful enough to entice a few Sharks to invest in this App. How it all plays out I have no idea, but this is one set of negotiations I'm very much looking forward to watching this Friday Night on the Shark Tank Show.

    1. They did a great deal. They get a cut of international business and their own. They will be multi-millionaires. PLUS they have the patent on the groovebook that allows them to ship at a low cost. That is one reason why Shutterfly and flicker are much much higher priced is to cover shipping! Hmmmm.. That is another source of huge income! yep, multi-millionaires.

They don't have a patent on shipping methods, they have a patent on the design of the book which has allowed them to cut shipping costs by about 400%.

The patent is not on the shipping method, but rather the design of the book that makes it flexible and allows for bulk shipping in envelopes for 80 cents.

I didn't get what the PATENT on the book was about? It is "grooved" for easier shipping? Can someone explain it to me, or direct me to where I can see it in action? Thanks

    1. The way the book is "grooved" allows it to be "flexible" in the binding. That makes for easier shipping which allows a cheaper shipping cost. If that groove wasn't there, the shipping would triple because the book can't be bent at all.

The "groove" in the middle of the book allows for the book to be flexible, therefore they are able to ship at a low cost. The groove in the book is what is patent.

The groove is the half circle that's been cut out of the spine of the book (I think)

This was not a Mom and Pop (or husband and wife as they appeared to be on show) start up. They are two partners already sitting on a pot of gold. They used Shark Tank as a publicity stunt and most fell for the hype. As with all other things, it will fizzle out. Who has room for 50 photo books sitting around? Next!!!!

    1. I love looking through my baby pictures and those of my moms, with phones storing all my pictures where are the hard prints to frame give away? To say it will fizzle out well I am on book 7 and can print one for a gift who wouldn't love a book of their grand children and cost 3.00, the question is why wouldn't you do it, I love love love this app every book I own, As long as they offer service I will buy now if 1,000,000 people do same every month that is Hmmm 3,000 000 dollars month if profit is .70 cents well you do math, and they sold to shutter fly for 14 MILLION. so much for fizzling....

Can someone patent this idea in Canada or is their patent worldwide? They currently don't ship to Canada (or outside of the US).

I really loved the books while I was getting them...but around August, I did the upload of pics by my anniversary date and did not receive a response. In September, I uploaded 100 more pics and awaited my confirmation. none came...I was disappointed that I did not receive my books. I cancelled my subscription today and am now in the process of looking for a replacement company that can provide pics from my cell phone..

  13. My Galaxy S5 takes great pics...and my first 4 Groovebook were crystal clear amazing color pics. Then Shutterfly bought them out...and my last 2 books SUCKED. SAME S5 camera...but pic color is faded...reds look faded..almost orange...pics are grainy. So...I took the SAME pics and had them printed at Walgreens and they are perfect. So...it was NOT the camera..the lighting...etc...it was poor cheap processing of the groovebook....which was NEVER the case before Shutterfly bought them out. I cancelled my account...sad...because it ONCE was a great App with great quality...crystal clear and colorful pics at a great value.
