Shark Tank Episode 627 this Friday night
The inventor of the Melni Connector's is Mark Melni, who will be appearing on the next Brand New Episode of the Shark Tank this Friday night on ABC. Mark has been working on his extremely fast electrical connectors since 2007 based on an invention similar to the Chinese finger trap when securely connecting cables together. Now, just in case you've never spliced large electrical cables before, the video below gives you a good idea about the process and the tools needed without a Melni Connector. If I was a Lineman or connecting large cables on a regular basis, Mark Melni's invention indeed makes a lot of sense for both efficiency and time required to complete the job.
There's no comparison on the time it takes repairing a cable the old fashion way and the Melni Connectors simplified method. The Melni connector completely installs in less than a minute compared to several minutes just getting the tools ready for the job.
Melni Connectors Review before Shark Tank Appearance
After seven years since inventing the Melni Connectors, Mark took his invention to Kickstarter in February 2013. The initial goal was set at $100,000.00 to help bring his electrical connectors to market. Unfortunately, less than $2K was raised when the crowdfunding campaign ended in March 2013. What is it about this superior product saving a considerable amount of time when splicing cables together, (especially during major outages when time matters most) but still hasn't found the traction to change the industry standards? Could the price per connector verses the time required per man hour spent be the main reason?
Currently the Melni Connectors for sale range between $60 to $67 each on the website. Using the times required in the video above, the average Lineman makes a traditional repair of large sized cable in approximately 15 minutes, or four repairs per hour. The cost per connection in materials is minimal using the crimping method, but the time saved using Melni connector's significantly increases productivity per hour spent in the field.
During a major weather event, when thousands or even millions of people are without power, the Melni connector's could truly be a lifesaver when every minute counts. But for electrical companies paying employees by the hour for service calls also billed by the hour, we'll, it might make more business sense getting the job done, but just not under a minute.
Like I said at the beginning of this article, the Shark Tank Show has never had a product quite like the Melni Connectors that falls within a brand new product category all by itself. Mark also has a few other connectors in development including solar connectors, modular connectors and even battery connectors that would've appealed to thousands of Shark Tank Fans during the Show. But, unfortunately, only the #2 to #4 AWG and the 1/0 - 2/0 AVG connectors are currently available during this episode of the Shark Tank.
Watch the Melni Connectors on the next Shark Tank this Friday night and see if He can connect with the Sharks and get a deal to energize this entire market.
