Gato Cafe on Shark Tank
The entrepreneur wanting to start the Gato Cafe is Adriana Montano, who'll be appearing on the Shark Tank Season Finale this Friday night in Episode 623. Adriana AKA "The Main Cat Lady" first took her idea to an Indiegogo Campaign last year trying to raise $75,000.00 to open up the first Gato Cafe. The video below used for raising funds for the campaign gives you a good idea of Montano's ultimate vision.
The first Gato Cafe Indiegogo Campaign unfortunately only raised $1200.00 of the stated $75k goal when it closed in July 2014. The first thing that comes to mind on this date is it was also during Shark Tank Casting for Season 6. Gato Cafe has over 3700 Like's on FaceBook proving they like the idea of a Cat Cafe in the State of Florida, but only 24 was willing to help fund it.
Those numbers would be enough to crush a lot of entrepreneurs, but not Adriana, who refuses to give up on her dream. The Gato Cafe recently launched a new crowd-funding campaign again at Indigogo with the same stated $75,000.00 goal. During Shark Tank Season 6 Finale when Gato Cafe will be featured the campaign will have 50 full days to make its financial goal. Unfortunately, it looks like most of the perks for the campaign involve going to the Gato Cafe and no perks designed for Shark Tank Fans. Imagine how many orders a well designed cat t-shirt representing the Gato Cafe, and the Humane Society would bring in during the Shark Tank Show from Fans around the world?
Gato Cafe before Shark Tank AppearanceWhen thinking about investing in a Cat Cafe is the potential liability from previously caged cats that still might be a little frightened during the transition. I would be very surprised if the Sharks don't bring this fact up during the Show. In fact, when searching "Cat Cafe" to see how many of these businesses are out there, the first result was a Cat Cafe in Denver getting sued for a cat scratching a customer. The Doctor bill was around $300.00 along with an additional $5500.00 for pain, suffering and lost wages. It's amazing how much a poor little kitty can hurt someone when frightened, especially when Lawyers get involved.
Even with the help of a Shark Tank appearance for Gato Cafe to reach its $75,000.00 crowd funding goal, the cafe will still need to get past one major hurdle. The State of Florida has never issued a permit for a Cat Cafe as of this writing. Even if Adriana raises the full $75k needed to open the Cafe, apparently it's not a done deal the city and government officials will approve this type of business model. The Gato Cafe will be the very first Cat Cafe in the entire State of Florida with this piece of "official" information on the bottom of the campaign page. You'd think Gato Cafe already secured all the permits before going on the Shark Tank, would you? We'll find out soon enough.
