Forget about Black Friday or Alibaba's Singles Day generating over $9 billion in sales on a single day. The Amazon Prime versus Walmart Online day on July 15th, could, in theory, become the best day for consumers to buy millions of products online during the entire year. When you have two gigantic online retailers now in a direct challenge on the exact same day, you can bet any short-term profits is the last thing on their minds.
The Amazon Prime vs Walmart Online Day didn't start out as the rivalry it's growing into, but just celebrating Amazon's 20th Birthday and reward their Prime Members. As a loyal Amazon Prime Member myself, I was already planning to buy a few things online during this sale July 16th. But now that Walmart's made a direct challenge to Amazon on it's Birthday, this Summer sale might become the single Best Day To Shop Online, period.
Considering Walmart could've started their own "Shopping Day" following Alibaba and Amazons footsteps, this might be a risky move directly competing like this with the #1 Online Retailer in the US. On the other hand, it might be a pure genius idea for the #1 retailer directly competing with the #1 online retailer on the exact same day. A little competition is always a good thing, but, in this case, Walmart has started what's essentially a Business Feud with Amazon that neither can now afford to lose.
How low will Amazon and Walmart prices be on July 15, 2015? The Business Feud is just getting started marking the first-ever-event, and no doubt will become more popular until everyone knows this date. The one thing Black Friday and Alibaba Day don't have is direct competition pushing prices down even further, and yet that's exactly what Amazon and now Walmart's Day has become.
The biggest winners of this Shark Tank Fight among Giant Corporations will be us the "Consumers" taking advantage of the Biggest Business Feud Day on the Internet. The lines have been drawn with Wal-Mart making the first move on Amazon's 20th Birthday. Amazon knows under no circumstances they can let Walmart generate higher online sales on the First Anniversary Sales Day. Walmart Online, however, has to know this is an incredibly risky move for their entire online business that could go either way. For Walmart to make this kind of challenge a success, they'll need solid numbers that can compete with loyal Amazon Prime Members. While Walmart doesn't offer a prime membership, it does know about selling tons of merchandise in a short amount of time.
